This is truly a 5 star hotel. However, on a corner across the street from the hotel a drummer, complete with cymbals, bangs out loud rhythms throughout the evening hours in the hope of getting handouts from passing tourists. The hotel claims they cannot interfere with the first amendment rights of this person whose presence is highly annoying to hotel guests situated adjacent to "his corner".

We were thrilled to be able to experience such a great place at such a good price. The location was perfect.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Having arrived late at night, the service was excellent from getting us into a fine room to serving up a wonderful buffet breakfast in the restaurant in the morning. It was a great experience!

Valet parking was not easy to find and not well marked. Took us 20 additional minutes to circle the block and find it. Room quality was sub-par. Painting over the bed frame was missing; we were offered rooms next to the elevators. And come on, putting a married couple in a double bed? We thought they were joking at first. But unfortunately they weren't.

Hotel was great. Should have explored it more, but it was such an amazing location that walking around San Francisco took precedence.

Excellent hotel that meets all the standards one expects from the name St. Francis. It is easy to feel like Royalty in the St. Francis.

My overall rating could have increased had the rooms been a little bigger, had we had all amenities before checking in and there been more concierges available at peak periods.

Hotel was in the heart of Union Square. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Staff was friendly and concierge was helpful with ideas and directions. This is a must stay!

The Westin St Francis was awesome and I can't believe I paid what I wanted to pay to stay there. It was so beautiful and the location was right in the heart of the city. If I go back to SF, I will definitely stay there.

Great location and beautiful lobby but it still did not make up for the 2.5 star qualities of the rooms. Felt more like staying in a dungeon than a proper 3 or 4* hotel. If I were on vacation rather than in town for business my trip would have suffered immensely.

Very disappointing, stayed there on honeymoon, many years ago, (30 years) they have not updated, since, paint was peeling; room smelled of mildew; however, the location was excellent; probably would not stay there again unless, renovated.

The place is great but you must pay a lot extra to get the updated and spacious rooms in the tower. We didn't figure this out until we were checking out. Our room was cramped with no view and a puffy miniature double bed was not enough for my husband and I to sleep comfortable together.

The location is nice if you want to be right in the thick of San Francisco shopping, but it does have drawbacks. Rooms are very small and I have yet to get one with a view. Because the location is so popular it can be hard to get around the public spaces because they are packed. Elevators can take forever. Another big negative is the $49 parking fee.

At the main entrance there is a sign: The building has chemicals that can cause cancer and birth defects, the California government is aware of this.

We were very pleased and treated very well at the Westin S. Francis. They upgraded us to a lovely junior executive room when we arrived as a mother and grown son, and I discussed that I had requested two double beds. Though a room with that request was not available due to a convention arriving shortly and the hotel being fairly solidly booked, they accommodated us to the best of their ability, and we were extremely satisfied. The room had a great view of Union Square. It was a lower floor (eighth) which meant that a lot of street noise was present but we had no complaint with that since they were so pleasant. A minor incident with a gentleman who appeared to have enjoyed being in the lounge rather too long was handled efficiently and professionally, with the bartender and manager making a special effort to apologize and make sure we were not upset. I would highly recommend this hotel.

The room was too small to fit two adults. I then contacted the hotel. The hotel waitlisted me for a larger room. When I arrived in SF, the hotel was very accommodating and provided an upgraded room that was very comfortable for two people. They were great!

The staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful, the location is superb, and the rooms are nice. But it's more of a factory than you'd expect for a 4-star hotel. There are hundreds of rooms and don't expect to eat breakfast for less than $20.
